Robert L. Vann began loving music at a very young age.
Born in Tampa Florida, Robert L. Vann was raised in a family with strong Christian values. He began singing in his Baptist Church at a very young age. While having the additional support of his extended Church family Robert soon gained confidence in his singing ability and longed for the opportunity to sing whenever possible. Though a gospel singer by nature he longed to do a variety of styles. As he grew into a teenager he sang in his high school choir, and soon after he was exposed to the rich melodic sounds of ballad singers of the era. Robert listened to the music of Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and many others, but it was Nat King Cole’s exceptional vocal sound that stayed in his head and became the inspiration and essence of his performance style. Upon graduation from high school, Robert made the decision to leave his home state of Florida to pursue a singing career in California. Robert, with the dream of becoming a recording artist, persistently sought out potential opportunities to share his talent and attempted to make connections with key individuals that could provide a venue for him to sing. Although some opportunities were made available, Robert, like most, was still a struggling artist and needed a second source of income. After looking over his career options, Robert enrolled in a local Junior College, taking voice technique classes and formal private voice lessons, which helped improve his vocal ability and nurture his passion for singing. While in school, and working a job where he transported hospital patients, Robert also found a love for Nursing. He later entered a Nursing degree program and received his Registered Nursing License. He worked in the field of Dialysis, Private Duty and Hospice. Ironically, Robert was able to incorporate both passions into his daily routine by occasionally singing to his patients when appropriate. He was often asked by families of patients to sing as a means of comfort. Through this service, which he thoroughly enjoyed providing, Robert was invited to perform at various events, special programs and venues. In addition, Robert had the opportunity to both care for and perform for families already established in the entertainment industry including Miles Davis, Van Alexander, Carol Channing, Stan Winston and Albert Broccoli. A partial list of Robert’s live performances include The Touch Club, Tiberio’s, Dimples, Ciro’s, The Legendary Greats of Comedy, Jazz and Soul, The Roots of Rock and Roll (Chapman University), The Carson Community Players, Precision Dance Company Showcase, Safire Bistro and many other live stage plays, musicals and private parties in the California and Florida area.In the midst of the Heavy Metal, Hip Hop and the Rap music dominance, Robert L. Vann serenades the imagination of his listeners with a beautiful picture of love songs, which will touch your life, and leave you with lasting loving memories.
